Important safety information: DEPO-MEDROL is not for premature infants. The reason is that DEPO-MEDROL contains benzyl alcohol. Benzyl alcohol may be related to a serious breathing problem.

DEPO- MEDROL is a corticosteroid. When you are given this type of medicine, it may be hard to tell if you have an infection. Also, you could get a new infection. Your doctor may test fluid from your joint before you get DEPO- MEDROL. Infections may be more common with higher doses of this type of medicine. You should also call your doctor right away if you notice signs of infection, such as unusual redness, swelling, fever, or chills.

Having more injections could, in some cases, make the joint unstable.

Possible side effects of corticosteroids such as DEPO-MEDROL include flares of pain after the injection, joint disease, tearing of a tendon, joint infection, thinning of the skin where the injection was given, and joint inflammation. If you have any of these side effects, or others, call your doctor. He or she can tell you the best way to manage any side effects you may have.
